Hello. I’m Leila in my lounger. I will try to keep this blog in two languages. I have some postings allready and they are not translated into english. (There is of course the google translation but it makes funny language sometimes.) But maby I get those done some day too. My own translation can also be very poor sometimes, but I hope you will forgive me my mistakes.
The idea is to give our relatives in other countries the text without google and also make my english better in time. In life there have to be chalences. Now I’ve taken a new step. It can be little difficult. But if not, it wouldn’t be a chalence.
In future I will make my translations to the same place where the finnish text is. (Only this is in two places.) All the tools of this blog are there. This text is only an excample. Usually I write about all the things that come to mind. Such as feelings, positivity, writing, the meaning of words and so on. Please come to follow my blog.
Nothing is as important as gardening.
by Leila
For ages we have been hearing about the need for gardening. But so it is, important things are repeated in the world over and over again. Gardening has so many meanings. It can be a way to get more food. The kind of fresh, additive-free local food that is now being marketed anyway and that we should favor anyway. It can be a way to feed those bees that have really dwindled from the world and for which precisely flowers play a major role in keeping them alive. Gardening can also be a way to keep the yard looking good, a way to relax, a way to get out of stress. For some it’s a way to compete, for some a way to invite guests. Gardening can also be a family activity, a way to introduce children to nature, even a way to work with some pets. Whatever the reason, gardening is just good for people.
Gardening is also a versatile hobby because it can be done in any kind of space. For some the garden is an entire park area, for some it is a single balcony box. All other ways are actually intermediate forms of these. Nowadays, there can also be all kinds of structures that are connected to the garden. Such can be a greenhouse, a garden house, a pergola, a barbecue shelter, a fountain, a rock garden, a terrace, a balcony, a pallet structure, a seating group, a hammock, a hot tub, a pot garden, some kind of fence structure. There are countless options. How wonderful, for example, are the different things made by casting, like those made with rhubarb leaf mold. Fumbling with all of these things gives a person such a good feeling.
Many studies show that man relaxes while interacting with nature. I think, for example, the hands in the mold and planting is very relaxing. I think the same heart rate-slowing effect comes whether you do it with your bare hands or gloves in hand. Besides, it is a feast for the senses. The smell of soil, what a seedling looks like with its tiny leaves, the song of a bird in the background. At the same time, satisfaction with what has been achieved.
When I got the time, I really have to look for what size files my photos are made of. Now all my previous photos have disappeared. It happened when I added the tags. That image of a starting eye would appear too big if I hadn’t narrowed the number of it’s pixels. But summer isn’t the right time to do that kind of work, so for now let’s go without my own pictures. Fortunately, those public images are often even better than mine.
I intentionally left the picture of a dahlia this big. I usually like close-ups as long as they aren’t taken from me. How can every petal be like Gradient. At the same time, I wonder how every petal can be different. With sunshine, the sight is even more amazing when the color of the petals glows in the sun. The color becomes so full-bodied that nothing more can be hoped for in that moment.
Dahlia is an incomprehensibly strenuous flower. Really! From one generation to the next, every single spring rhizomes are carried out from the basement or similar place, watered and nourished. They are planted and guarded every frost night. Then they finally bloom for a while. Then the withered flowers are plucked, the stems are supported, watered, fertilized and watered again. Every night, of course, it is guarded that the frost does not damage the plants. In the fall even more closely, but of course so that the frost pinches the leaves and stems, but not the rhizomes. Then the plant understands to gather all its energy in the rhizomes for the coming year. Then they are lifted and wrapped with great tenderness for winter storage. There the rhizomes should not become too dry. And the same again in the new spring year after year.
But maybe we humans need such rituals. They make us relax anyway. Very rarely is a garden such that it actually makes money. Let’s think about growing tomatoes. If a kilo of tomatoes is on offer for € 0.99 per kilo, home-grown will not easily make money. Especially if the upbringing progresses as can sometimes happen. First, acquire a greenhouse. The seeds are then obtained. They can be bought over the seas if new varieties appear there. Seedlings are then grown from seed. Then the seedlings may have problems. The kitten drops the seedling box, the seedlings are in too dark, the wind cuts the seedlings, they are left out too early to the frost. Whatever destructive power they are subjected to, you may often have to buy new seedlings. Then those new seedlings are planted.
Then we are infinitely hopeful. Then the dough is not shaken. The flowers do not want to form tomatoes. Then comes the pest, someone forgets watering, the plants are watered too much, watering is missed couple times and the tomatoes crack. Well, at that point you might buy those € 0.99 tomatoes from the store. But yes, watching that tomato grow is soothingly reassuring. Let’s rejoice this together again this summer!
